“Late ’70’s” picnic update and work tasks

August 10, 2009 · Posted in 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 70's annual picnic

We had a great meeting last night to plan out all the details for the picnic. Our current attendance estimate is 200! We’ll have name-tags and guest books (by year) at a reception table.

Things for everyone to bring

There is picnic table seating for about 100, so everyone is encouraged to bring folding chairs, shade (umbrellas, “Easy-Ups”), blankets, etc. Also bring:

  • something to eat and drink (we’ll have hot coals and ice)
  • plates, cups, eating utensils (we’ll have a few for those who forget, but maybe not enough for everyone) (We encourage you to “be green” and avoid disposables.)
  • musical instruments
  • sports equipment

Other reminders:

  • Cell phone reception at the picnic area is spotty. Your phone may not work.
  • If you’d like to come up by bus, the AC Transit #67 stops at the Brazilian Building. It leaves Downtown Berkeley BART on the :50 (11:50, 12:50, etc.), and arrives at the Brazilian Building 25 minutes later on the :15 (12:15, 1:15, etc.). It’s about a one-mile hike (0.9 miles). If you’d like a shuttle from the bus, leave a comment below with the bus you will be on and Lee will come pick you up.

Map:

The picnic table is Padre picnic area on South Park Drive. The bus is the bus stop at the Brazilian Room.

I can bring a “Radio Flyer” wagon it might be handy to take items from the unloading zone to the picnic site.
Also I can work the reception table from 11:30 – 1:00 pm.
If you need any help transporting I have a small hatchback (scion xa) and would be happy to bring a bunch of smaller items. Just let me know.

I am off 2 target to buy 3 more totes and then I will go to the dollar store for tongs and a spatula and markers. I have some butcher paper to make signs like 1975,1976,1977,1978,1979 . and for table toppers to put the food on.

    Greetings Organizers,
Thaks for doing a great job sounds beautiful. I’m from Classof 75. I have some goods to donate like ink pens & compostion books, do you need felt pens ? I’m thinking about taking the bus to the event how do I get a ride from the shuttle from the bus ? I have been spreading the word. Thanks alot. If you need the items before the event you’re welcome to pick them up before, I’m not sure what time I will arrive.
    Sincerely,
    linda lewis

Linda and others, I’ll be the Brazilian Room for the 12:15, 1:15, and 2:15 buses. We’ll try to get someone else for the 3:15 and 4:15. I think folks will have to be on their own about getting back down the hill, but I suspect we’ll be able to arrange rides back down (the last bus arrives/leaves the Brazilian Room at 7:15, so I can get anyone back to that or earlier if you let me know which bus you want to be on). – Lee Trampleasure
